Deep Conditioning & Treatment Aftercare
Your hair just got a serious dose of love. Here's how to keep the results going.
Right After Your Treatment
Deep conditioning treatments need a little time to fully absorb and work their magic. Give your hair some breathing room.
- Don't wash your hair for at least 24 hours. The treatment is still being absorbed into your hair shaft. Washing too soon rinses away the benefits.
- Skip heavy products. Your hair is already loaded with moisture and nutrients. Adding heavy creams, oils, or styling products on top can weigh it down and leave it feeling greasy.
- Avoid heat styling. Let your hair air-dry if possible. Heat can undo some of the repair work your treatment just did.
- Sleep on a satin or silk pillowcase. This prevents friction and helps your curls hold onto the moisture from the treatment overnight.
Keeping the Results
Treatments give a big boost, but how you care for your hair day-to-day determines how long those results last.
- Deep condition at home weekly. An at-home deep conditioning mask once a week extends the benefits of your in-salon treatment. [Product recommendation TBD — will update with Jessica's picks]
- Minimize heat styling. Heat is the #1 enemy of healthy curls. Air dry when you can, and always use a heat protectant when you can't.
- Stay hydrated — inside and out. Drink plenty of water. Your hair's moisture starts from within. Use a leave-in conditioner or hydrating spray between wash days.
- Use a gentle, sulfate-free shampoo. Harsh shampoos strip the oils and moisture your treatment added. A gentle formula keeps everything balanced.
- Protect your hair while sleeping. A satin bonnet, silk scarf, or silk pillowcase prevents frizz and moisture loss overnight.
Signs It's Time for Another Treatment
Your hair will tell you when it needs more love. Look out for:
- Increased dryness or straw-like texture — your hair is losing moisture faster than it's getting it.
- More frizz than usual — the cuticle layer is roughened and needs smoothing.
- Tangles and breakage — hair that snaps easily or tangles into knots needs protein or moisture.
- Curls losing definition — flat, limp curls often come back to life with a good treatment.
When to Rebook
Most clients benefit from a professional deep conditioning treatment every 4–8 weeks, depending on hair condition and lifestyle. If your hair is color-treated, heat-styled frequently, or naturally very dry, you may want to come in closer to every 4 weeks.
